Volunteering Activity Description:
The “Food Rescue & Donation” volunteer activity involves collecting surplus food from farmers’ markets in Athens and Thessaloniki. The activity takes place daily, lasting 1.5 to 2 hours, typically between 2:30 and 4:30 pm. Volunteers are provided with guides in both Greek and English, ensuring they are well-prepared for the task. Each session begins with a brief introduction and training, and at least one experienced team member from the organization is present to guide the volunteers.
The primary aim is to reduce food waste by collecting unsold yet perfectly good food and redistributing it to those in need. This hands-on volunteering opportunity not only helps combat food waste but also provides essential support to vulnerable communities.

Volunteer Duties:
Food Collection and Sorting: Volunteers will collect surplus food from designated farmers’ markets and sort it according to type and quality, ensuring that only safe, edible items are prepared for donation which are donated in charitable organisations in the same region to support people who are food insecure, such as juvenile facilities, nursing homes and day centres.
Transport and Delivery: Volunteers will assist in transporting the sorted food to distribution centers or designated locations where it will be redistributed to individuals and organizations in need.
